Caroline: "Joining Fitness and Wellbeing on Clapham Common has greatly improved my overall condition, co-ordination and balance, not to mention shape and weight! The classes are extremely well designed and balanced for the over 50s, tailored for each participant to their own levels of capabilities. The exercises are gentle though hard, no one feels under any stress or pressure to achieve, the classes are always full of wonderful laughter.
I particularly enjoy their being outdoors - rather than in a noisy gym - come rain or sunshine and in the cold recent weather the regular and new attendees (ranging to over 80 years old) are most definitely the proof that everyone feels the benefit of such classes which should be extended as much as possible to other open green spaces." Melanie Oxley: "Thank you so much for your wonderful classes on the Common. We do a good range of activities which can be fun too, whilst improving our core strength, limb flexibility and our balance - all so important as we get older'. November 2013

Commonsensefit is for YOU!
Having just retired from many years of full-time primary school teaching and anxious to avoid the possibility of ‘slowing down’ (and indulging in too much chocolate!), I was delighted to come across Commonsensefit’s banner during one of my regular ‘exercise walks’ on Clapham Common. Joining the hour-long sessions on Mondays and/or Wednesdays has been just what I’ve needed. It’s friendly, fun and definitely non-competitive; each session is carefully designed to cater for the individual needs of like-minded ‘Lavender Ladies’ (and ‘Lads’); we are always encouraged to work within our own personal capabilities. It really is ‘everything it says on the can’!" December 2013
Anonymous, 78: "For me one of the most attractive aspects of the fitness classes is that they are held out of doors. Exercises can be boring if there is nothing to look at, but being out in the open air is a pleasure in itself as well as providing plenty of visual stimulus. It gives me a feeling of being more alive, and after only a few weeks I feel quite a lot more relaxed. The exercises themselves can be quite demanding, but we are instructed that if anything hurts, not to do it. We are never ever criticised, but instead encouraged to persist, and sometimes find, to our surprise, that we can do more than we thought we could - always a good feeling, especially as old age creeps up. I think that something of this nature can foster optimism, give us the confidence to attempt more, improve our general health and keep us away from doctors' surgeries and A&E - which can only be a good thing!" Marie: "I joined the over 50 class on the common in September and I think it is wonderful. The exercises are tailored to match needs and focus on balance and core strength. Since I started, my balance has improved greatly and I even try to do some of the exercises at home! It so important for older people to remain active and this class promotes this activity in an enjoyable way. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone - being out in the fresh air is an added bonus! Jacqueline Hine: "I commenced the classes on Clapham Common in June 2013 and have found them very enjoyable. Our instructor is helpful and enthusiastic and explains the benefits of the various exercises. It is good being in the open air which increases the feeling of well being and it is fun to meet up with old and new friends. I thoroughly recommend her classes." December 2013
